Do you think Kate will feel "left out" because her name doesn't start with a "C"?????
I like spelling it with a "K" because I think it's pretty, it's classic, and it's simple (no explanations necessary). I certainly don't want to give her something else to work through, but, I wasn't necessarily thinking to continue the "C" trend anyway...... Tell me what you think!

Okay....I struggled with whether to give my opinion on this...but we went through the same issue, sort of. We were Carl, Jill, Catey, Jocelyn, Carli, before the boys were born. See? C,J,C,J,C. Tim should have been a "J". I big time struggled with whether to name him a J name or not. Don't laugh....this was a MAJOR concern of ours. :) In the end, because he was a boy we felt able to justify the difference. JUST ME SPEAKING NOW>>>if our Tim had been adopted, I would have kept with the J names. I would have worried about any little thing that would have had him thinking we thought of him differently. But...if my dh was adopted, like yours, I would ask if HE thinks it would be a big deal or not. That said, we are also pretty partial to Kate spelled with a C (like our Catey). :) Whatever spelling you decide on, your love is what is going to make her feel right at home. Blessings!
We have Avery Hope and Allie Grace now, both bio. We just liked the names Avery & Allie, weren't necessarily going for a whole theme-thing, it just happened. We had decided to use a family name (cooper) if we were referred a boy- but since our referral is a girl- we kind of felt like we needed to stick with the "A" first name and "virtue-type" middle name!! Also- I've always loved the name Annalee, so we ended up with Annalee Joy. I'm probably putting too much stock in it- but I didn't want her to feel left out. I also worry, though, that when the girls are teens, they will wonder why their mama isn't more creative with names and had to stick with the same letter! :) (or if we ever get a sibling call- now we are really tied to the A's) I think- either way you go with Kate- it's great. It still has the same feel to it, with a C or a K, and it's a beautiful name either way!

Okay~ I'm like your friend Jilly.......we are Brad, Shana, Bryce, & Sara Kate (B,S,B,S) so Malley (Malagan) should be a "B" and oh have I thought about it....ALOT. But, from the get go I also prayed for God to give us her name, and I feel like he honored my request; so if she asks why (or even if she doesn't) I am prepared to tell her that we feel like God named her.
To me, names are very significant and nothing to sneeze at. And I have the same types of thoughts - especially since my youngest will be adopted........but you know, in the end all that really matters is that you all have the same last name.
As for my specific opinion, I would probably use the "C"-- there are practical reasons to do so as well.....such as monogrammed items that would be able to be passed down, etc. But, you just never know, Kate(Cate) might be her own kind of person and enjoying being different than everybody. So, either way it will be a win/win!!
Is that clear as mud or what?
This is how ours went. We started out with Chelsea, then had Logan, then Cayden. So Logan decided we had to name the baby something starting with "L". I tried to come up with a name that started with "L" and it just didn't seem right. I do think God helps us with the name, because the name Jaelynn just came to us and it feels so right. Logan is ok now with the name not starting with "L". I'm not sure I helped you at all, but if everyone started with the same letter I do think I would stick with the "C"
I think it's amazing that you thought of the C verses K possibly being a future quandry. I would go with C rather than K, just so you don't ever have to worry with the issue arising--and like Shana said....the monogrammed things could be passed down. Of course, we support whatever you end up deciding. We have no letter trends in our family, but if we did, that's just my humble opinion of what we'd do. Thanks for letting us share in the journey.
I LOVE it spelled with a "C"! It is a little more unique, but still a classic, simple name. Plus, I think she would always wonder why her name didn't get spelled with the same starting letter as her sisters. Either way, I think it's a beautiful name!!!!!!!

Our children will all be "E" names. Ellie (Elizabeth) is named after my gradmother, and Eva (Evelyn) will be named after Scott's grandmother. It just worked out that way. I actually did not want an "E" name for our little boy. I thought it might be just too cutesy to have all "E" names for our kids. But, I feel like God gave us Ephraim's name. So, we have all "E"s. I like Kate with a "K". I think any child of yours and Tims will be so secure in your love for her that what her name starts with is going to be insignificant. Just my 2 cents.

How important is the original reason that you picked the name? How close do you want to make that connection? If it's not that big of a deal "C" will make her feel in unity with your other children. If the connection with the heritage of Katherine of 500 years ago is important then you would use it as a point of distinction to let her know how special she is and how special her destiny is. We often think of being different as bad. It's really how you frame the issue. If you decide on "K" because of the historical connection then you tell this story to let her know how special she is in history and how you choose something different on purpose. Just some thoughts...
Can I just say that, I've checked your blog about a thousand times today......
I know that soon, very soon, you'll be getting a phone call; and I just can't help myself from checking!! So,so, so looking forward to it!!
I say stick with another "C". Adoption brings a number of issues to the table, in itself. And one more difference is simply that...one more difference. I personally, LOVE Cate. Whatever you decided will be RIGHT for your family.
Congratulations!!! Your children are BEAUTIFUL!
I will say being a member of a family of four with all four names starting with MAR I thought was cool growing up. However, had Marci been a boy she would have been Matthew and given his loving parents and brother I don't think he would have been adversely affected in any way. Spell it the way you like it. A word of caution, if you go with the C be prepared for at least half of the times people write it including some of your close friends to spell it wrong. Just ask Lynnnnnnnda or Meghhhhhan. At least there won't be pronunciation issues like those who pronounce Meghan "MAYGUN" I like names to complement each other but don't overanalyze it (take it from someone who has spent way too much time overanalyzing everything) Claire and Callie don't have Korean middle names despite the fact that they are the offspring of a Korean father, but keeping a Korean name of CKATE as a middle name certainly appropriate and I am sure they will understand why you chose to do that and won't feel left out. Also, it should be pointed out that the alliteration is present regardless of the spelling CALLIE CLAIRE CKATE
