Fuel for thought

So this morning on the radio I heard about that gas station over in Wilmington, North Carolina, where the attendant accidently programmed the premium pumps for 35 cents per gallon instead of $3.35. It started about 9 am. People called their friends, and those people called more people until there was so much traffic the police were called for crowd control. The mistake was finally realized late that afternoon.

Would you have filled up???

Probably not, since I don't use premium in my car! j/k Sadly I probably wouldn't have noticed until it was too late to do anything about it. I never pay attention to how much I pay for gas any more. A few years ago when we were in college I had a situation like this though. I had taken off a semester when our son was born. I still got my pell grant check in the mail at home even though I wasnt' enrolled in classe. I took it back to the financial aid office and was actually criticized for doing so. The lady said you should have just kept it. It was $1600 and we could really have used that $$! But how wrong would that have been to keep it?! People don't even think of that as stealing b/c it was someone else's fault, but it's still the same thing! And since no one has commented it makes me wonder if people were scared or embarrassed to give you their answer!

I'm not scared to comment. Heck yeah! I would have filled up and probably called all of my friends to tell them about it. I then would have informed the gas attendant about the price difference. Did no one tell the gas station about the mistake? If so, that's where the deceit truely lies. Knowing me I would have felt obligated to offer more money, and hopefully they would have declined to accept my proposal; then I could sleep better that night. Imagine how proud my husband would have been when I told him that I got gas on sale today for $.35/gallon. I would have been the wife of the year!
